Dada toys, also known as dadist toys, were a form of surrealistic art and play developed by the Dada movement in the early 20th century. These toys were often made by artists and were meant to challenge standardized notions of what toys should be. Dada toys were often made out of found objects or repurposed materials, such as wood scraps, metal parts, and household items. They were characterized by their nonsensical, whimsical, and absurd designs that were meant to upend conventional ideas of play and childhood. Some famous examples of Dada toys include the wooden dolls created by German artist Sophie Taeuber-Arp and the mechanical sculptures made by Swiss artist Jean Tinguely.
